Information on Development and Alumni Relations IBM Notes. Welcome to Alumni and Development’s IBM Notes site at Penn State! Here you can find information about how to configure and install IBM Notes on your Windows Machine.

If you are upgrading from a previous version of IBM Notes or installing IBM Notes on a computer that previously had IBM Notes installed please use the NICE.exe utility to completely remove any user and program data.

Download the IBM Notes 9.0.1 Client
Run the NOTES_9.0.1_Client.exe with an administrator account.
Leave the default radio button selected on the Remove Installation Files wizard prompt. Click Next through the prompts until you arrive at the Installation Path Selection.

IBM Lotus iNotes Login. Enter your user name and password and then click Log In. User name: Password: Options. Select the mode.

4. Leave the install directory at it’s default location of “C:Program Files (x86)IBMNotes

5. Under “Install this application for:” SELECT “Only for me (Single User Install)

(Administrator NOTE: This is related to the location the data folder, multi-user installs are not currently supported.)

6. The only required feature is the Notes Client. All other features can be removed.

7. Do not make Notes the default application for your email, calendar, or contacts. Click Install.

Install the IBM Notes Fix Pack 5

Download the IBM Notes Fix Pack 5
1. Download the IBM Notes 9.0.1 Fix Pack 5
2. Run the IBM Notes 9.0.1 Fix Pack 5 with an administrator account.
3. Follow the prompts choosing “Next”, “install” and “Finish” where appropriate.

Configuring the Notes Client

Click Next on the Welcome panel of the Client Configuration Wizard.
Enter your first and last name in the Your Name field
In the Domino Server field enter: d5-ddas2.ad.psu.edu
Leave the “I want to connect to a Domino server” checked.
Enter your IBM Notes password. If this is the first time you are logging into Notes you should have an email from a Development staff member with your default password.
Leave all checkboxes unchecked on the Additional Services panel of the Configuration wizard. Click Finish.
When prompted to set Lotus Notes as your default email program, click on the checkbox In the future, do not perform this check and select No.
The notes client will launch and display the Getting Started page.

Setting up the Server Connections

1) Close any tabs that are open.

2) Select the Open Menu Button on the top Left of the Client and select the Contacts to open the local user’s notes address book.

3) Close the “about contacts” tab

4) On the “User – Contacts” tab click on the “Advanced” menu item under the “Other Contacts” on the left-hand navigation menu of the user’s contacts.

5) Select the “Connections” Menu in the user’s address book to setup the connections to the DDAR Notes Server.

6) Click New and select Server Connection

5. Select the “save & close” button to save the settings for the ddas2 server connection

Setting the DDAR Welcome Page as the home page

Select the Open Menu Button.
Click on the Open Menu, right click on the “PSU Dev and Alumni Notes Home Page” bookmark and select, “Set Bookmark as Home Page.”

Note: It can take a few minutes for the home page to be pushed to the IBM Notes client. If you don’t see the bookmark immediately try closing and reopening the client or bookmark the welcome page manually by following these steps:

Go to file, open, Lotus Notes Application.
In the “Look in” drop-down menu, type the server: d5-ddas2.ad.psu.edu. Scroll down, and select “XP_Welcome” (XP_Welcome.nsf). Click open.
Close the “About” tab. Then click on the tab titled “PSU Dev and Alumni Notes Home Page.” This is the homepage that will be frequently used.
Right click on the “PSU Dev and Alumni Notes Home Page” tab and choose “Create Bookmark.”
Click on the Open Menu, right click on the “PSU Dev and Alumni Notes Home Page” bookmark and select, “Set Bookmark as Home Page.”

IBM Notes is a powerful email messaging client that allows you to connect via IBM Domino servers, which include design and developer tools and server run time. It also provides support for a rich suite of tools designed to help you organize your daily tasks, such as calendar, contacts, to-do lists, feed reader, widgets, instant messaging service (Sametime), web browser, as well as other collaboration utilities.

Tweaks during the installation process

The program lets you choose the components that you want to install, namely Notes Client (e.g. Notes Browser Plug-in, Client Help Files, Domino Enterprise Connection Service, Spell Checker), IBM Connections, Feed Reader, OpenSocial component, and Sametime. It provides short descriptions about each feature and size needed on the disk.

What’s more, you can make IBM Notes your default email, calendar and contacts program. The tool deploys a pretty large package on your system so it needs several minutes to finish the process.
